19-year-old Michalis’ life turned upside down 5 months ago, when he collided with another vehicle while riding his motorcycle. Michalis was rushed to a hospital in Thessaloniki, where the doctors had to fight in order to keep him alive. His tests revealed multiple rib and spinal fractures, while he had to be subjected to chest drainage due to internal bleeding. During his hospitalization, Michalis was subjected to 3 spinal surgeries, while he remained in the ICU for 3 whole months.
Over the past 2 months, Michalis is being hospitalized in a rehabilitation center, where he is being subjected to an intensive physiotherapy program, which will allow him to strengthen the muscles of his lower extremities, so that he’ll be gradually able to get back on his feet. At the same time, he is also subjected to speech therapy, while the doctors’ main goal is to help him remove the tracheostomy and the nasogastric tube.
As we can all understand, Michalis still has a long way ahead of him, therefore he needs to remain in the rehabilitation center for many more months. Michalis’ family however, is unable to cope with the cost of his hospitalization and they are now in a dead end. His parents recently reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS. The Organization’s doctors and social workers came in communication with the center’s medical staff, as well as with the hospital doctors who had treated him, and without wasting any time, we organized this aid campaign, which will allow Michalis to complete his rehabilitation program.
Michalis is only 19 years old. He has his whole life ahead of him. If he manages to proceed with his treatments, he’ll eventually be able to get his life back! To get back home. The only thing he is asking from us, is to give him the chance to fight so that he’ll be able to get back on his feet! Together, we can make it happen!
