Theofania is 2 years old and she is suffering from pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency, a rare,  

neurometabolic, genetic disorder, which causes microcephaly and severe psychokinetic delay. When Theofania was just 6 months old, her parents started to notice that the baby’s head wouldn’t grow, while she seemed to be lethargic and tired. They then came in contact with their pediatrician, and after a series of tests, little Theofania got diagnosed with pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency.  

Till this day, Theofania hasn’t been able to walk or speak, while for the past few months, she is being subjected to an intensive speech therapy and physiotherapy program in a private facility of Athens. Thanks to her treatments, her condition has shown great improvement, while according to the child neurologists who monitor her condition, these treatments are essential for her overall health. Her family however, is unable to cope with the unbearable cost of her treatments, since they are not fully covered by their health insurance. Furthermore, her mother is unable to work, since she stays by her daughter’s side 24 hours a day, accompanying her daily to all her treatments.   

Little Theofania is fighting a hard battle ever since she came into this world. We cannot abandon her. Let us all join forces and improve this little girl’s life! Any contribution can make a great difference!
