We are so happy and moved to hear that Ioanna’s heart surgery was a 100% successful. The attending doctors are amazed by this little fighter’s post-op recovery, who was recently subjected to an extremely complicated surgical procedure. The little girl was diagnosed with a life-threatening, rare case of pulmonary artery stenosis. However, thanks to your immediate support, the surgery took place without wasting any precious time. The little girl had to remain hospitalized a little more than anticipated, so that the doctors could make sure there weren’t any complications and that she would receive the best possible care. This two-year-old girl had to face the biggest challenge of her life and today, she is safely returning home to her loving family. Her sweet and innocent smile is our reward!

“We are so happy and so moved that everything went well! We were extremely worried, but we had faith! My baby has been suffering for so long and we just couldn’t wait for all of this to be over. We are so grateful to all these people who showed their support. We are so grateful to the Act of Kindness organization that stood by us since day one and provided us with everything we needed, without wasting any valuable time. They were there for us every step of the way! They took care of everything. Medical tests, surgery, doctors, tickets, accommodation… I have no words to describe how grateful I am. But most of all, I was impressed by their humane approach was towards us. They genuinely cared for us. I really cannot imagine what the situation would be like if we haven’t contacted them. We just want to thank everybody from the bottom of our heart for helping out our family”.

Every year on February 15th, International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) seeks to spread awareness for childhood cancer. The day also encourages support for the families of children with cancer.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 300,000 children between the ages of zero and nineteen are diagnosed with cancer each year. Every three minutes, a child dies of cancer. Some of the most common types of childhood cancers include:
Leukemia
Brain cancer
Lymphoma
Solid tumors, such as neuroblastoma
Finding a Cure
More needs to be done to help children in these low and middle-income countries survive cancer. It is a widely-held belief that every child with cancer deserves the best possible care, regardless of their culture, race, or social status.
To help more children survive childhood cancer, WHO has created a Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer. The goal of the initiative is to reach a sixty percent survival rate for children with cancer in a decade. Doing this would save one million lives. To achieve this goal, every country needs to provide quality services for children with cancer. There also needs to be an increased prioritization of childhood cancer at the national and global levels. Through advocacy, leveraged financing, and governance, WHO hopes to cure all children with cancer.
Healthcare professionals believe that early detection and proper medical care helps to prevent cancer deaths. In high-income countries, more than eighty percent of children with cancer are cured. In low and middle-income countries, the opposite is true. Only about twenty percent of children with cancer in these countries find a cure.

A new era begins for “Praxi Agapis”, the Child and Family Welfare Organization, which after taking into consideration the ever-increasing number of people who require assistance in Greece but also abroad, is expanding its activity, while changing its name to “Act of Kindness”. In the context of upgrading our services and tools, we are proud to present our new website to the public, by the name of www.act-of-kindness.org. This up-to-date, multidimensional, efficient and easy to use tool, signals our transition to a brighter and more exciting future. All these years, the Organization’s function is being based on timeless values, such as Love, Solidarity, Offer, Respect, Honesty and Integrity, which constitute the main pillars of our operation. Always taking into consideration the importance of Trust, which constitutes a fundamental principle for the Organization’s course, we have created a new, digital environment, where every fundraising campaign posted on the website – regarding the financial support towards our fellow citizens that are facing severe health problems which require immediate treatment in Greece or abroad, as well as the purchase of specialized medical equipment – is accompanied with a fundraising progress bar, that shows the exact fundraising goal. The benefactors have the ability to donate the sum they desire, while observing on their screens the progress bar filling up. The bar is immediately updated and displayed live, so that every user can see it. Embracing the concepts of Transparency and Trust, driven by a sense of stability, but at the same time by an attitude towards change, and while possessing a cutting-edge, but at the same time a user-friendly technology, we have now formed the infrastructure that will ensure the Organization’s seamless operation, creating unlimited possibilities and contributing to a better society for all of us.
Aliki, our 2-year-old friend from Katerini, was severely injured after being hit by a truck, while playing just outside her house. The little girl had suffered craniofacial, chest and abdomen injuries and she was immediately transferred in critical condition to a hospital in Thessaloniki. Thankfully, the little girl was out of the woods; however she was unable to walk, talk or hear. Her father never left her side, always trying to cheer her up and encourage her. However, the little girl still had a long way to go, since she had to be subjected to an intensive physiotherapy treatment program. As the day of her discharge was approaching, her family was more and more worried about how to afford her very expensive treatments. Representatives of the Hospital contacted us in order to help find a solution regarding the little girl’s treatment program. Without wasting any time, we made the necessary arrangements in order to raise the funds required for her treatments, while we managed to find an intensive treatment program suitable for her condition, in the area where the family resides. As soon as the little girl got discharged, we paid a visit to the family, in order to evaluate their living conditions and to make sure they had everything they might need. From the very first day of her discharge, our little friend began an intensive program of physiotherapy sessions at home, but also at a specialized facility, thanks to the help of our freelance associates. We stood by the family’s side during the course of Aliki’s treatment program, offering moral support and ensuring the best possible environment for the little girl’s rehabilitation and recovery. At the same time we have settled some of the debts they have accumulated during her hospitalization. We offered holistic psychosocial support and we made sure that their daily needs were taken care of, so that her parents could fully engage to their daughter’s recovery. Gradually, our little friend’s condition showed great improvement. She began taking her first steps, uttering words and giving away smiles. Today, the little girl can walk, speak, laugh and she looks nothing like the way she was prior to her discharge. We are extremely happy for her recovery and we feel so proud for this little girl, who found the strength to get back on her feet!

Great news regarding Aliki’s health condition!
Thanks to your immediate response, Aliki, the two-year-old girl who got hit by a vehicle on October 25th, is doing much better. The ”Act of Kindness” organization was informed about Aliki’s condition by the hospital where she was being treated. Aliki had to be immediately subjected to a series of physiotherapy sessions in order to treat the neurological damage she had suffered, however the family didn’t have the means to pay for these treatments. If left untreated, the damage could become irreversible. Without wasting any time, representatives of our organization paid a visit to the family, in order to evaluate their needs and to ensure the best possible environment for the little girl’s rehabilitation and recovery. As soon as she got discharged, Aliki was immediately subjected to an intensive treatment program, which included physiotherapy sessions at home, but also sessions at a specialized facility. Her motor skills gradually began to improve, while she started to respond to external stimuli. However, the Christmas miracle came true these last few days, when the little girl began to talk, to play, to laugh and to walk without any assistance. The shock that her body had suffered due to the impact has gradually subsided, while her sensory and motor skills have shown great improvement. The little girl will proceed with her treatments until she makes a full recovery. Thanks to the ”Act of Kindness” organization’s immediate response and thanks to your defining contribution, today, this little girl has a chance to a better quality of life! On behalf of the family, we would like to kindly thank all of you for your support throughout this ordeal. You are the true heroes in this story! And together, we will keep on performing acts of kindness and hope!
Η έγκαιρη και άμεση κινητοποίηση όλων μας, συνέβαλε καθοριστικά στο να σημειωθεί μεγάλη βελτίωση στην υγεία της μικρής μας Αλίκης, το 2 ετών κοριτσάκι από την Κατερίνη που είχε παρασυρθεί από βαρύ όχημα στις 25 Οκτωβρίου.
Ο Οργανισμός Πράξη Αγάπης ενημερώθηκε από το Νοσοκομείο όπου νοσηλευόταν η μικρή, για την επιτακτική ανάγκη που υπήρχε να υποβληθεί το παιδί σε τακτικό πρόγραμμα φυσικοθεραπειών και ότι η οικογένεια αδυνατούσε να ανταπεξέλθει. Η οποιαδήποτε καθυστέρηση θα μπορούσε να αποβεί μοιραία για την αποκατάσταση της υγείας του παιδιού.
Άμεσα, αρμόδιοι εκπρόσωποι του Οργανισμού μας επισκέφθηκαν την οικογένεια, εκτίμησαν τις ανάγκες της και της προσέφεραν όλα τα απαραίτητα αγαθά που είχε ανάγκη εξασφαλίζοντας τις καλύτερες δυνατές συνθήκες περίθαλψης και αποκατάστασης της μικρής.
Έτσι, από την πρώτη μέρα του εξιτηρίου, η μικρή Αλίκη έκανε εισαγωγή σε εντατικό πρόγραμμα θεραπειών που περιλάμβαναν φυσικοθεραπείες κατ οίκον και συνεδρίες σε εξωτερικό θεραπευτήριο.
Σταδιακά, παρατηρήθηκε σημαντική βελτίωση της κινητικής της ικανότητας, ξεκίνησε να κάνει κάποια βήματα, να αντιδρά σε ερεθίσματα και να ανταποκρίνεται θετικά στις παρεμβάσεις των ειδικών.
Η ευχάριστη έκπληξη ήρθε αυτές τις τελευταίες ημέρες που η μικρή Αλίκη ξεκίνησε να μιλά κανονικά , να παίζει, να γελά και να περπατάει πλέον χωρίς υποστήριξη. Το σοκ που προκλήθηκε στον οργανισμό του παιδιού από τη σφοδρότητα της σύγκρουσης υποχώρησε σταδιακά, και οι αισθητηριακές και κινητικές ικανότητές του επανήλθαν σε ικανοποιητικό επίπεδο. Η μικρή Αλίκη θα συνεχίσει να λαμβάνει όλες τις απαραίτητες θεραπείες έως ότου αποκατασταθεί πλήρως η υγεία της
