The story of Lefteris

Lefteris is a 16 year-old boy who needs our support in order to acquire a standing device and a wheelchair.
The young boy was born with meningomyelocele and hydrocephalus and he underwent surgery when he was just a little baby. Since then, he is being closely monitored by the doctors of the public hospital and he receives the required physiotherapy sessions that are paid for by the family’s medical insurance. However, he desperately needs some medical devices that could improve his quality of life, such as a wheelchair and a standing device.
The wheelchair is necessary for the child’s independence, since it will allow him to move autonomously. The use of the standing device is imperative, since it will allow him to stand, therefore the condition of his musculoskeletal system will improve and he will no longer suffer from bedsores.
The boy’s medical records have been thoroughly evaluated by the organization’s pediatrician, Mrs. Noula Paraskevi.
The cost for the purchase of these devices, including the discount provided by their insurance, amounts to 5,234 euros, a sum that this multi-child family cannot afford.

Mission accomplished!

Within a short period of time we have managed to provide Lefteris with the necessary equipment that will improve his quality of life!

Thanks to your defining contribution, we have managed to acquire the standing device and the wheelchair. The total cost for these devices amounts to 5,300 euros. The orthopedic store will soon deliver the wheelchair and the standing device to this young man. The devices are custom-made according to his body-type and his needs.

We are proud to participate in the largest street food festival of Northern Greece, "Thessaloniki Street Food Festival 2021" that takes place at the outdoor area of the International Fair of Thessaloniki, from October 21st until October 24th!
Volunteers and members of our organization will be there in order to educate people about our charity work and our effort to support children and families who are experiencing financial difficulties and health problems. We look forward to meeting all of you and introduce you to "acts of kindness", at the most famous meeting point of all foodies around the world!

The story of Antonis

Antonis Georgopoulos is a 10 year-old boy from the village of Kidonia in Imathia. He suffers from severe cerebral palsy, severe cognitive impairment, spastic quadriplegia and drug-resistant epilepsy.
In 2019, and while being perfectly healthy, he was diagnosed with FIRES syndrome, which resulted to paralysis of his central nervous system. Until this day, Antonis remains confined to a bed. He has no awareness of his surroundings and he is unable to move.
This child immediately needs physiotherapy sessions on a daily basis, in order to avoid irreversible damage to his musculoskeletal system.
The boy’s medical records have been thoroughly evaluated by the organization’s pediatrician, Mrs. Noula Paraskevi.

Thanks to the immediate response and sensitivity of our fellow citizens we have managed to provide Antonis with the necessary medical equipment. A number of benefactors have donated a nebulizer, a specialized oximeter and an electric adjustable bed. 

On behalf of his family, we would like to kindly thank all of you for your immediate response! Your sense of solidarity and your genuine concern, has given a ray of hope to this young boy and his family. 

However, Antonis still has a long way to go. He must proceed with his physiotherapy sessions in order to avoid irreversible damage to his musculoskeletal system.

Update 17.10.2021

Thanks to your generous contribution, for the past month Antonis is being subjected to all the necessary physiotherapy treatments on daily basis. The results so far show a great improvement of his respiratory and metabolic functions. Also, the boy has gradually begun to regain a slight movement of his extremities. The next goal will be introducing a series of new exercises while wearing a torso narthex. This will gradually improve his body posture and eliminate the formation of bedsores. 

We would also like to remind you, that thanks to your immediate response, the family has acquired in just seven days, the medical equipment which was indispensable for the improvement of this boy’s health. 

On behalf of Antonis’ family, we would like to kindly thank all of you for your defining support. We will stand by this family’s side for as long as needed. Your contribution is of the essence, so that the little boy can carry on with his treatments. 

Together, we can give a ray of hope to this family!

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the impact poverty has on society and to emphasize the need to create a world where all people can enjoy equal rights and live with dignity.

According to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, the eradication of poverty isn’t just a matter of philanthropy, but a matter of justice. We hope that the celebration of this day becomes less and less necessary. But until that happens, we must do everything in our power to provide some comfort to our fellow citizens in need. This concerns all of us!

Apart from being a symbol of blindness, the white cane is also an essential tool that gives blind people the ability to move freely and safely from place to place.

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the importance of the use of the white cane, but also on the struggle that blind people face in their daily commute.

According to the World Health Organization, roughly 300 millions of people around the world are either blind or experiencing some sort of visual impairment.

Let us all move from words to actions and stand by our fellow citizens!

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on mental health issues and to put an end to social exclusion.

“This year’s theme is Mental Health in an Unequal World, and aims to draw attention to the inequalities that exist in the treatment and care of people with mental illness. One of the most neglected dimensions in the broad universe of health is mental health, which is often accompanied by stereotypes, lack of knowledge about specific issues and misinformation. Worldwide, many human rights violations are committed against people with mental disorders: men and women of all ages who already suffer from the stigma and discrimination to which they are subjected, leading to isolation and marginalization”.

World Mental Health Day is a symbolic day to remind us that seeking help is a sign of strength instead of weakness!

"Summer In The City SKG Music Festival" which is held at Aretsou Beach, performs an act of kindness by hosting us at this great event, from Wednesday 29th till Saturday 2nd. Volunteers and members of our organization will be there in order to educate people about our charity work and our effort to support children and families who are experiencing financial difficulties and health problems.
